The Departiment of Control and Computer Engineering ( DAUIN ) manages research and teaching activities related to three main scientific areas.
As regards the Control Engineering area, research at DAUIN covers the development of methodologies, algorithms, and software for the modeling, simulation, control and automation of complex systems and industrial infrastructures, as well as their exploitation in various application contexts.
As regards Computer Engineering, DAUIN pursues the study, design and experimentation of both the hardware and software aspects of information processing components, devices and systems, as well as their integration in complex systems and their exploitation in various application domains. More specifically, in the context of hardware systems, the focus is on innovative architectures for information processing and on the development of methodologies and frameworks for the automatic design of electronic systems, including mobile devices.
Concerning software aspects, the research is focused on computer networks and security issues, software engineering and databases.
Finally, in the Operations Research field, DAUIN is engaged in the development of methodologies and instruments for the analysis and complex optimization and decision problems in the field of computer science, communication and automation. More specifically, applications domains are network design, production and services planning and logistics.
DAUIN pursue both applied and theoretical research, leading to a considerable impact on both the industrial and social environment, both at the regional, national and international level, as evidenced by the large number of projects funded by public and private companies.
The research is organized in three main sectors.
Concerning Control Engineering, in this field the research focuses on systems for identification, prediction and control of complex systems and their applications to automotive and space application domains. It also focuses on new technologies for multi-company logistics, on the software for robot simulation and control, on data analysis systems for space applications.
Concerning Computer Engineering, research activities spans from communication networks, computer graphics, voice recognition sytesm, arithmetic cIn the computation units, software engineering, software systems security to the design of digital circuits, CAD design tools and bioinformatics.
In the context of Operations Research, the researches are focused on design of optimal communication networks, production ands services planning, human resource management, external logistics with many applications to company information systems.
DAUIN participates and in some cases coordinates research programs together with other universities in Italy, Europe and all around the world. It is particularly active in national (MIUR, ASI, CNR) and European research programs.
The research collaboration network is increasingly widening including many italian private companies and the Public Authorities (e.g. Ministry of Justice, Alenia Spazio, Telecom Italia, Csi Piemonte, G.M./Fiat, San Paolo IMI, Italtel, STMicroelectronics) and many foreign companies (e.g.: HP, Intel, Philips, Athos Origin, SRC). Quantitatively, around the 90% of the budget comes from research and consulting contracts.
Finally DAUIN organizes seminars and international conferences, it hosts outstanding professors, lecturers and researchers from foreign universities and actively participates to mobility programs for researchers and lecturers.
