The objective of the project is: PROMOTING MIGRANTS IN SCIENCE EDUCATION and in choosing science careers. The migrants addressed are children of immigrants because of economic and political reasons. There will be a focus on intense cooperation between co untries of origin and countries of residence, in order to harmonise the different methods and standards in science education. These differences in science education in addition to linguistic and cultural communication problems are considered to hamper a successful integration of migrants. The goal will be achieved by a threefold package of activities: 1) DIRECT PROMOTION of migrant girls at universities by establishing CLUBS LISE, a girls working group on topics of science, to promote the choice of sci ence studies for migrant girls as an underrepresented group in science. Acknowledging the gender dimension in science as a male-dominated field the girls will work together with female scientists and science students with migration background. These will function as role-models for their own science careers. 2) To affect a MEDIUM-TERM PROMOTION of migrants in science education PROMISE-teams consisting of teachers and education scientists will cooperate with experts of migration, language and intercultu ral research in order to collect and develop new methods and best practices in science education considering the linguistic and cultural diversity of classes. 3) To establish a LONG-TERM PROMOTION of migrants, specific teacher trainings will be institut ionalised. For the purpose of harmonisation of methods of science education a dialogue between countries of origin and residence, between universities and schools, will be established.

The new EIT Digital Innovation Activity, Approxim@ction, will create a digital platform solution for approximated embedded computing, that tackles the challenge of short battery lives of smart wireless devices found in many Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems - such as industry and smart cities. The answer is to create a new standard of Ultra-Low Energy (ULE) wireless sensors, which boost data package-based bandwidth and battery lifetime predictions through the use of mathematical approximation modules. These reduce the amount of data generated, computed and transmitted by wireless sensor network nodes.

The research proposal is the continuation of the project “Mathematical models for orders forecasting and management and big data analysis for orders pre-configuration”, just completed.The goal of this new proposal is to extend the results of the first project, by fulfilling open points and by further enhancing the order-by-delivery process with a more consistent data management and the inclusion of economic data one side and on the other side a robust interface towards the user and a validation phase based on a real campaign. As a result, this proposal addresses two main directions: 1. Multiple objective optimization and intermittent demand analysis 2. Data modelling, ingestion and management 3. User interface and validation through promotional campaign As a result, the objectives of this project are: 1) to propose mathematical models that include also the economic aspects, to generate pre-configured sellable orders to optimize profitability and plant saturation, while reducing lead time for the customer; 2) to specify a database for storing data in a sound and consistent manner, thus easing pre-configured order creation and optimization in a seamless way; 3) to validate the tool within a real campaign.

ll progetto DISLO-MAN ha come obiettivo primario la realizzazione di un piattaforma ICT per gestione integrata, dinamica e autonoma delle operazioni di produzione ad alto livello di automazione finalizzata all’ l’ottimizzazione delle risorse (persone, materiali, sistemi di produzione). La piattaforma DISLO-MAN, fortemente basata sulle tecnologie della Internet-of-Things (IoT) consisterà di più moduli hardware e software orizzontali applicabili ad ambiti produttivi indifferenziati, e di moduli verticali applicati a quattro filiere dimostrative ad alto impatto sul territorio e con differenti volumi, dimensioni e complessità: il car manufacturing, il machine tools manufacturing, la meccanica di precisione, la farmaceutica e l'agroalimentare.

Order-to-Delivery process entails all the activities from the recognition of a customer need to the delivery of the product to the customer (need satisfaction). The efficient management of the OTD process has to trade-off the lead time reduction and the production resource saturation, and this is a rather complex problem especially in multi-product environments. The trade-off between a small lead time and an efficient use of the production resources stem from the fact that while the lead time perspective only considers customer orders (received or expected), the production resources perspective must take into account also how and where product are processed. In particular, plant saturation is usually an indication of efficiency and a good saturation is usually defined as being not too small (for the economical point of view of the investment for building the plant) but also not too large (leading to large lad time due to the well-known Little’s law).An appropriate saturation can be achieved by loading the various line of a plant in a proper way, i.e., by realising in production a correct mix of products.The objective of the research activity is the development of mathematical models, based on predictive algorithms, to support the definition and the management of orders through the OTD process.In practice, using both demand forecast and order received for the various product and all the information related to market margins, configuration grids and both make/buy and process capacity, the models aim at optimizing plant load in term of utilization but without neglecting the lead time dimension. Also, inventory levels (with respect to the different products and their market) have to be considered to avoid building inventories that will be hardly absorbed by the market demand just to increase the plant saturation.
