    Abstract

    In this project we aim at studying new optimization frameworks and models for transportation and logistics problems that arise from the technological advances and the data availability. Flexible on-demand transportation systems and car sharing systems are promising directions to reduce the number of cars and the parking space. Coordinated routing of vehicles can reduce congestion. Carrier collaboration can reduce the number of trucks on road. Many classical logistics problems need to be revisited and new models developed to exploit the new dynamic and detailed dimensions of the available information.

    Abstract

    SYNCHRO-NET will demonstrate how a powerful and innovative SYNCHRO-modal supply chain eco-NET can catalyse the uptake of the slow steaming concept and synchro-modality, guaranteeing cost-effective robust solutions that de-stress the supply chain to reduce emissions and costs for logistics operations while simultaneously increasing reliability and service levels for logistics users.The core of the SYNCHRO-NET solution will be an integrated optimisation and simulation eco-net, incorporating: real-time synchro-modal logistics optimisation (e-Freight-enabled); slow steaming ship simulation & control systems; synchro-modal risk/benefit analysis statistical modelling; dynamic stakeholder impact assessment solution; and a synchro-operability communications and governance architecture.Perhaps the most important output of SYNCHRO-NET will be the demonstration that slow steaming, coupled with synchro-modal logistics optimisation delivers amazing benefits to all stakeholders in the supply chain: massive reduction in emissions for shipping and land-based transport due to modal shift to greener modes AND optimised planning processes leading to reduced empty kms for trucks and fewer wasted repositioning movements.This will lead to lower costs for ALL stakeholders shipping companies and logistics operators will benefit from massive reduction in fuel usage, faster turnaround times in ports & terminals and increased resource utilisation/efficiency. Customers and end users will have greater control of their supply chain, leading to more reliable replenishment activity and therefore reduced safety stocks and expensive warehousing. Authorities and governmental organisations will benefit from a smoother, more controlled flow of goods through busy terminals, and reduction of congestion on major roads, thus maximising the utilisation of current infrastructure and making the resourcing of vital activities such as import/export control, policing and border security less costly.

    Abstract

    Il progetto ONDE UVVC - Optimization forNetworked Data in Envinronmental Urban Waste Collection ha come obiettivo generale permettere alle nriprese del settore ambiente, grazie alla collaborazione con i centri di ricerca, di condurre attivita di sviluppo sperimentale di nuovi servizi innovativi secondo la metodologia internazionale del Living Labs. Il progetto riguardera attivita di sviluppo sperimentale basato sul paradigms dello sfruttamento dei dati prodotti da sisterni di datiattualmente connessi ad internet e integrazione con altri dati secondo la logica open data (""Internet of Data""). II progetto nel suo approccio JOD intende coinvolgere quail target finali del progetto cittadini e arnrninistrazioni locali.

    Abstract

    Il progetto prevede attività di ricerca e sviluppo finalizzate alla progettazione e messa a punto di soluzioni, basate sulle ITC, a supporto della logistica e dei processi di trasporto, con un focus particolare sul trasporto multimodale di merci. Il risultato principale del progetto sarà lo sviluppo di strumenti efficaci che migliorano sostanzialmente le sinergie tra i diversi attori della filiera mediante l’applicazione di tecnologie basate su sensori (Sistemi di rilevamento Intelligenti e Integrati) e sistemi di supporto allo scambio di informazioni tra gli operatori della filiera (piattaforma di comunicazione integrata), secondo una prospettiva di processo.

    Abstract

    According to a recent forecast published by ABI Research , a fast growth of the market of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) is foreseen in the next five years. For example, in 2016 the overall annual market for Lane Departure Warning systems is expected to reach 22 million units/year (corresponding to 14,3 billion dollars). This market growth will be possible only through the reduction of costs of components as well as the seamless integration of different functions in the same architecture. Since the market will include also low volume vehicles, there will be also a strong need to reduce development costs. Electric vehicles will be an additional catalyst for the ADAS market. The absence of engine noise requires the introduction of new means to protect vulnerable road users from these vehicles. On the other hand, electric vehicles can easily support (semi)automatic functions (such as parking manoeuvres and Stop&Go).To manage the expected increase of function complexity together with the required reduction of costs (fixed and variable) DESERVE will design and build an ARTEMIS Tool Platform based on the standardisation of the interfaces, software (SW) reuse, development of common non-competitive SW modules, and easy and safety-compliant integration of standardised hardware (HW) or SW from different suppliers. With innovative design space exploration (DSE) methods system design costs can be reduced by more than 15%.Hence, DESERVE will build an innovation ecosystem for European leadership in ADAS embedded systems, based on the automotive R&D actors, with possible applications in other industrial domains.Since the purpose of ADAS functions is also to support the driver, an advanced human-centred design strategy will be integrated in the Tool Platform. Therefore, the developed applications will provide natural and friendly support to the driver, with proper levels of overall functional safety also during complex or emergency manoeuvres.

    Abstract

    ACEM-Rail project deals with automation and optimisation of railway infrastructure maintenance. It focuses on the track. The final goal is to reduce costs, time and resources required for maintenance activities and increase the availability of the infrastructure. The project includes both conventional and high speed lines.ACEM-Rail project will mean an important step forward in railway infrastructure maintenance techniques for the following reasons:• Several technologies for automated and cost effective inspection of the track (subgrade and superstructure) condition will be developed and prototypes will be manufactured. These technologies will be applicable both to conventional and high speed lines.• Predictive algorithms will be developed to estimate the rail defects evolution.• Algorithms will be developed for an optimal planning of railway infrastructure maintenance tasks. For the moment, there are not appropriate optimisation models for the integrated scheduling of preventive and corrective operations.• Modes and tools will be developed in order to monitor the proper execution of corrective and preventive maintenance tasks. These technologies will be applied in mobile (hand.held) computers. This way execution and monitoring of maintenance tasks will be automated and optimized.• A novel technology based on intelligent systems will be developed for the optimal management of all the subsystems in the whole railway infrastructure system. A classification of all the different subsystem together with the selection of most relevant parameters will be carried out.The main benefits of the project are: (i) reduction of cost, (ii) increase in safety, quality and reliability of the service, (iii) increase of rail freight transport and, as a consequence, (iv) reduction in CO2 emissions.
