Nicolò Bellarmino wins the semifinal at the “TTTC E. J. McCluskey Best Doctoral Thesis Award 2026”

The Research Assistant of the DAUIN Nicolò Bellarmino has gained access to the final of the TTTC E. J. McCluskey Best Doctoral Thesis Award 2026, at the 27th IEEE Latin-American Test Symposium (LATS 2026),
for the doctoral thesis entitled Computational Intelligence for Computer-Aided Design: Machine Learning Techniques for Microcontrollers Performance Screenings.

The award is promoted by the IEEE Test Technology Technical Council (TTTC). It is awarded to doctoral theses that stand out in the field of electronic systems testing, to give visibility to young researchers and encourage interaction between academia and industry.
The winners of the four semifinals (VTS, ETS, LATS, ATS) will advance to the final, which will be held at the International Test Conference (ITC 2026), on 11-16 October 2026, in San Antonio (Texas, USA).

Abstract
Dr. Nicolò Bellarmino’s doctoral thesis analyzes Machine Learning techniques applied to the performance screening of microcontrollers, with the aim of making the process more accurate and scalable. In particular, the work proposes a statistical system based on Machine Learning (ML) that goes beyond the traditional speed binning approach, introducing a continuous prediction of the maximum operating frequency (Fmax) and advancing these methodologies from proof of concept to solutions suitable for production environments.
